My Grandmother always made fresh cranberries for us. Never did like that canned cranberry sauce.
We can make a better version without the cup of processed sugar.
Stuff You Need:
1 bag, fresh cranberries (12 ounce bag.)
Instead of the 1 cup of water use ½ cup pineapple juice and ½ cup water
1/4 cup of applesauce (unsweetened)
1-2 Tablespoons of honey (You can always add more at the end)
What To Do:
Put cranberries, pineapple juice, applesauce and water in a sauce pan, bring to a boil.
Keep on medium heat; stir constantly and wait for the cranberries to start to pop (about 10-15 minutes).
Simmer 10-15 minutes and remove from heat.
Cool completely and store in fridge for a couple hours. The pectin in the berries will thicken as it cools.
Taste at the end of cooking. If it’s not sweet enough for you add a little more applesauce or honey. Add some crushed pineapple, preferably fresh.
There are sugar free sweeteners but remember they are not healthy. The point of all this is to have a healthier cranberry sauce. Sugar Free.
If you enjoy Orange flavor in your berries add a dash of Orange Juice.
