Dietary Guidelines 2015 Report

The Dietary Guidelines Committee just released a 571 page report with recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services and the department of agriculture

recommending America should adopt a plant based diet.

I think it's about time the FDA got a voice about all of the terrible food choices Americans, and the world, are forced to consume.

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

The Food industry has taken some steps forward getting manufacturers to remove saturated and trans fats from our food but there's a long way to go.

I have been talking to people about food for years and I hear it all the time, "I just don't have time to cook." Fast food and processed foods are the norm these days. Everyone has time to go to the drive through or open a box or can of processed food.

The salt and sugar that trans fats are making us sick. Even children are showing up with diseases that used to effect the older population.

We all need more plant-based nutrition. The vitamins, minerals Omega 3s and antioxidants found their are essential for our health.

The medical world is calling us to cut down on the dairy and gluten. Gluten is difficult for me because I'd love bread. I have been indulging in pumpernickel here lately. It has less sugar and I really like it. It costs over three dollars a loaf.

It's sad the way things are, the things that are the healthiest for us cost the most. With the way the economy is today these healthy products are out of reach for many people.

Who will see how the federal government reacts to this report. More importantly we'll see how people react and decide to eat healthier
